Tablet practice!

So, I received a digitizing tablet a few years ago as a gift. I knew there was a bit of a learning curve to these things, but I wasn't quite prepared for how difficult it was to initially do with the tablet what I could do with a pen and paper. The eye-hand coordination was all wonky, and drawing felt like I was recovering from a stroke.

Ordinarily I'm willing to put in effort to learn something worthwhile, but at the time my day job was consumed with pointless, frustrating toil on what in retrospect was a sinking ship of a department. I just didn't have enough gas in the tank to pursue more delayed gratification at home.

Anyway, cut to two years later and I've just bought a new computer. And, feeling up to the challenge, plugged in my tablet.

Turns out there was something wrong with my old computer that was making the thing impossible to work with. It's still tricky but I can actually produce a recognizable digital drawing that is reasonably close to my analog chops.

I'll post the results here from time to time. Hopefully progress will be swift. In the meantime, here's my first crack at it. I always thought George Lucas missed a lot of opportunities to do fun stuff with the Force...

  1. Seems silly, but when I wanted to get used to a tablet, I played some simple games with it - hand eye coordination skyrocketed...
